I was at our local Walmart yesterday and they also had this brand of croutons on sale for only $1 with the picture of the Price Cutter ad taped right below them. Walmart does price match and every week you can find pictures of items found in Price Cutter's ads taped up around the store. They want you to know you don't have to travel to Price Cutter to get the same deal.
I know a lot of people who price match at Walmart and that's great. I've done it myself. But when it comes to sale items like this that I have a coupon for, Price Cutter is my best bet. Why would I buy these for 50¢ at Walmart using my 50¢ coupon that Walmart will not double when I can go to Price Cutter and get the same $1 bag for free because they will double my 50¢ coupon?
It's worth the extra effort for me to shop at stores that double coupons. I still buy things at Walmart and can get good deals there with my coupons, but sale items + coupons + using them at a store that doubles coupons is going to save you the most money.
I've bought 6 bags of croutons this weekend for free at Price Cutter. If I would have bought them at Walmart, who is currently price matching Price Cutter's price of $1 plus using my 6 50¢ coupons, I would have paid $3. Just by traveling a little farther to Price Cutter, I saved $3.
That's my take on price matching at Walmart. Of course, some deals are worth price matching but many are better at the grocery store that advertised the deal in the first place.
